Our clients’ brief was to build a modern but character-style duplex that was reminiscent of the “Old Queenslander” style that the suburb of Edge Hill is known for.  It was important to the owners that the newly built duplex would be warm and welcoming and provide AirBnB travellers to the Cairns region with a relaxing and enjoyable place to stay. 

Gable roofs with decorative features were matched with a combination of rendered block on the lower level and James Hardie weatherboards on the upper level to give the duplex the street appeal our clients were after. 

The two-storey units are a mirror image of each other, with each consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, powder room, internal laundry, kitchen, dining, rear verandah and off street parking.  Built on a flat 542m2 block, the duplex has been designed to enjoy our tropical North Queensland climate with large windows on both levels, to capture natural light and allow airflow to move through the units. 

The construction of the home utilises a combination of construction methods from slab on ground with block walls to timber framing with weatherboard cladding.  The units are tiled throughout with the ground floor and first floor connected by solid hardwood timber stairs.
