Our clients' main objective for this project was to restore their home to its former character using both new and recycled materials and products from the original era. A number of earlier renovations had been done by previous owners including the installation of a aluminium window joinery, cork tiles and carpet, which the owners felt had compromised the home's charm.

The renovation included the reinstatement of the original verandah areas with new handrails and balustrades, the reinstatement of the original polished timber floors, as well as the removal of the existing kitchen and bathroom to create a new layout for the bedrooms and bathrooms.

All building products used in the project had to be in keeping with the original era, and instead of using MDF or gyprock products, solid hardwood timber was machined to match the existing single-skin VJ boards. The aluminium window joinery was also removed and replaced with timber casement windows and other features included hand-crafted shaving cabinets in the new bathrooms and the use of recycled doors and windows in the new construction.
