AWARD WINNING DISPLAY HOME - OMBRA

Nestled amongst the trees in the heart of Whitfield, the inspiration for OMBRA (meaning “shadow” or “shade”) was around our desire to create a sanctuary and a home that would not only look and feel strong but would also have a stillness and quietness about it. We wanted OMBRA to make you exhale when you walked through the door and to be a home where you felt the world slow down. OMBRA had to feel cool but warm in spirit and have elements of light and shade to reflect the movement of the shadows cast by the trees throughout the day.

In 2024, OMBRA was awarded with a haul of HIA and Master Builder awards at the Cairns, North Queensland and State level and we are incredibly proud of the Koru team and the very special team of trades and suppliers that were dedicated to this project. We are also very grateful to the amazing work of Lisa Mackee of Urban Abode Building Design and Bronte Skaines of Studio K Interior Design for bringing OMBRA to life.

We were provided with a weekly update and progress during the build and any issues identified were managed well.   • Koru managed the project efficiently and with impeccable attention to detail. Their tradesmen could not be faulted. They worked long days and were honest and obliging, nothing was too much trouble. Their workmanship was of the highest order.   • Bronte was the project manager for the renovation of our house which involved the kitchen, pantry, laundry, main bathroom and walk in wardrobe. The wooden floors were all sanded and revarnished. The inside of the house was painted. We are very happy with the final result. She contracted and employed good quality tradesmen. They were well supervised and there were no major delays. When there was a problem with the wrong colour grout in the laundry, she personally removed it so it could be done correctly. Bronte also had the brilliant idea to set up our old washing machine outside so we did not have to use a laundromat. We received a damaged new washing machine and bathtub and Bronte fixed the problem. When extra work was needed this was dealt with efficiently and effectively with help of her husband, Tony. Bronte was always available to answer questions and deal with problems. Her knowledge of interior decoration was immensely helpful and produced a much better outcome. She made sure that the fixtures and fittings were ordered in a timely fashion. She dealt well with delays in plans from the architect. She was a joy to work with, she is very efficient and I highly recommend her for any renovations or new constructions.
